Frequently Asked Questions
Do you wash your eggs and why?
We are licensed through the state of Illinois to sell our eggs. We are mandated to clean them to remove waste and debris from the eggs. It’s all based on consumer safety. Washing (in water 90°- 120°F) and refrigerating (at 42°F and below) are both to protect the consumer from and reduce any chance of Salmonella growth. Plus most of our customers do not want chicken poop in their kitchen or refrigerator!
Do you refrigerate your eggs?
Yes. Once the eggs are cleaned, they must be refrigerated. This makes the eggs stay fresh and edible for weeks after their sell by/use by date.
What does grade AA mean for your eggs?
This means we have chosen to bring you the most pristine and freshest eggs we can. We only give our eggs a 30 day window of freshness to ensure they are the freshest eggs you’ve ever had!! Our eggs will stay fresh as all other eggs– 45 days plus. But we work hard to get them to you to use them way before 30 days is up!!
Is your feed organic?
Our feed is not organic but it is all natural soy free feed. We choose to feed a more expensive feed mix without extra fillers. Our feed is made of real grains and keeps our hens fulfilled with plenty of nutrients and vitamins. They are also supplemented with sunflower seeds, boonworms, omega, oyster shell, grit, and greens. Every hen emerged from winter with beautiful plumage and great color. Their health is number one because their health passes to our customers!
